What Are Bondings?

Tooth bonding involves applying a composite resin to your teeth. The material used is a very durable type of tooth colored plastic that hardens using a special light. This light helps the resin to bond to the tooth beneath it. Since bonding involves very little preparation, the procedure can often be completed without the use of any anesthesia and typically takes less than one hour to complete.

When Do I Need Bondings?

There are many reasons that a dentist might recommend dental bonding. One use is as an ideal dental filling. A composite resin can be used to repair and fill cavities. But beyond that they are a popular way of improving a person’s smile. If the patient has teeth that are chipped or cracked, bonding will restore the chipped areas and cover the cracks. Bondings can also be used as filler to close gaps between teeth and to change the shape of the actual tooth. For instance, if a tooth in the front looks too short, dental bonding can be applied to lengthen the tooth.
